DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the dedication of the Billy Baker Field at Saunders Stadium. \nFor more information on Billy Baker\, view the linked article from the Boston City Council. The first two paragraphs are included below. \nBilly Baker was a native Bostonian who was born and raised in South Boston. He owned several businesses and is most known in the neighborhood for bringing soccer to the youth of South Boston. In 1984\, Billy gathered a group of parents to work with the Parks and Recreation Department to create a youth soccer league for South Boston. He successfully established the South Boston Youth Soccer League in 1985\, whose mission is dedicated to the ongoing development of youth soccer players in an inclusive\, safe\, affordable and fun environment. \nBilly led and served as the South Boston Youth Soccer League President for 35 years until 2020. For over three and a half decades\, he worked tirelessly to make the soccer league affordable for every child\, soliciting funds from community businesses\, merchants\, and government officials to purchase jerseys\, trophies and year-end gifts. He made sure all children had a pair of shin guards\, and that families who could not afford the $35 league registration fee or those who registered late were never turned away.

DESCRIPTION:Join Boston Harbor Now and the Boston Parks and Recreation Department at Moakley Park to give back to your community and enjoy the beauty of the city’s biggest waterfront park! \nEvent will run rain or shine\, however may be canceled due to severe weather conditions. \nWhat is provided: All necessary tools\, including gloves\, pickers\, bags\, sharp containers and safety instructions. \nWhat to expect: A volunteer session is 2 hours long\, beginning at 9:00am and will require picking up litter and natural debris. We’ll give you everything you need to keep you safe. Just bring a positive attitude as you help make a difference in this City of Boston Park. \nWhat to bring: Any snacks or water that you want! Make sure you wear work clothes and close-toed shoes (that you don’t mind getting wet or dirty). Don’t forget that depending on the weather you may want to bring hat\, sunscreen\, raincoat or jacket. \nDirections: Please meet in the park near the picnic tables by the basketball courts near Saunders Stadium (see image below).
